Group therapy is a process of understanding more about yourself and others in a safe environment. Objectives of group therapy include, but are not limited to:
- Develop skills to assist you in reaching your goals
- Feel a sense of support from other group members
- Learn how to improve relationships with others
Here at Blue Sky Counseling we offer group therapy for substance abuse. Group therapy can seem intimidating at first glance, however, group therapy provides benefits that individual therapy may not. Being a participant in Group therapy can function as a support network for those that may be struggling. Other clients of the group can typically help you come up with specific ideas for improving a difficult situation or life challenge, and hold you accountable along the way.
Regularly talking and listening to others in a group setting can often times help our clients put their own problems in perspective. Many people experience substance abuse issues, but generally speaking openly about them to people they don't know well can seem like a major roadblock. You may feel like you are the only one struggling — but you're not. In most cases it is a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through, and realize you're not alone.
Our clients have different personalities and come from a wide range of backgrounds, by addressing substance abuse struggles together, often others can provide perspective or point of view that you wouldn’t obtain from individual therapy. By seeing how others problem solve and make positive changes, our clients can discover a whole range of strategies for facing your their substance abuse concerns.
